National Poetry Day – Poems from our Workshops Part Two

In our second post in celebration of National Poetry Day, we are sharing more poems created in our sessions this September.

The theme for National Poetry Day this year is Wonder, so here are some poems inspired by the theme.

Wonder
As I sit here and ponder,
Life is good, no more worry.
I sit here often and always wonder,
Why in the past everything had to be hurried.

Life is wonder that much I know,
How the weather changes, from day to night
And from sun to snow, but to se that
Is a beautiful sight.

Here to witness all life forms,
Humans, flowers, birds and bees,
Breathing the air that blows through
The trees

Life is good, no more worry,
I sit here often and always wonder,
How beautiful the sky looks when
There's rain and thunder.

What a great feeling to be alive right now,
Happy positive and the sense of freedom,
Being present in the here and now,
I love what my life’s become.

So as I sit here and ponder,
I love my life and I have no worry,
I will sit here still and always wonder
How I got the strength to be me, that’s wondrous.

We also looked to other poets for inspiration as with these poems inspired by Prayer by Tracey K. Smith.

Poem inspired by Prayer by Tracy K. Smith
For love and honour
For the person who’s a goner,
For sweet and sour
And a delight for an hour,
For happiness for joy
For like a child with a toy,
For freedom for light
That surely could give sight,
For poorer, for richer
For power, for control and a perfect picture,
With hopes for love
For real dreams and angels above.
For there is always a way
And the present day is but a delay.
Poem inspired by Prayer by Tracy K. Smith
For love and friendship
For laughing for hours
For being happy as ever
And glad you’re here for this
For living in the moment
For being together for yourself
For happiness is the best
For I am blessed for being present
In the moment that makes me smile
For dancing like no ones watching for that makes me grateful
For listing to a tune for a long time
For music is life for me that is true without it I wouldn’t
Know what to do. For it has meaning like words and tones
Playing music for me goes on all day
For without it I wouldn’t be able to function
And the best thing I find when I am alone,
Is music speaks and when words fail music speaks.

I love how vastly different these poems are, despite the exact same origin.
